EXPLORE OUR WORKகாஞ்சிபுரம் தென்னிந்தியாவின் மிகவும் பழமையான நகரங்களில் ஒன்றாகும். காஞ்சி நகரம் பற்றிய குறிப்புகள் சங்க இலக்கிய பாடல்களில் பலவிடங்களில் இருக்கின்றன. இக்கோயிலை பற்றிய செய்திகளை மாணவர்கள் மற்றும் வரலாற்று ஆர்வலர்களுக்கு நேரில் கண்டு விவரிக்கும் வகையில் 06.03.2022 அன்று தென்னிந்திய வரலாறு மற்றும் பண்பாட்டு ஆய்வு மையத்தின் சார்பில் மரபுநடைப் பயணம் மேற்கொள்ளப்பட்டது. இப்பயணத்தில் சென்னை மாநிலக்கல்லூரியின் வரலாற்றுத்துறைப் பேராசிரியர் முனைவர் சு. ஜெகஜீவன்ராம் அவர்கள் பங்கேற்று கைலாசநாதர் கோயிலின் வரலாற்று சிறப்புகளை அனைவருக்கும் விளக்கிக் கூறினார். அனைவரும் பாராட்டி தங்கள் மகிழ்ச்சியை வெளிப்படுத்தினர்.
22.01.2023 அன்று திருவள்ளூர் மாவட்டம் பொன்னேரியில் தென்னிந்திய வரலாறு மற்றும் பண்பாட்டு ஆய்வு மையத்தின் சார்பில் வரலாறு மற்றும் பண்பாட்டு கருத்தரங்கம் நடைபெற்றது. பொன்னேரி நகராட்சித்தலைவர் மருத்துவர் கி.பரிமளம் விஸ்வநாதன் அவர்கள் கருத்தரங்கைத் தொடங்கி வைத்து உரையாற்றினார். இக்கருத்தரங்கில் "இந்திய வரலாறு தமிழ்நாட்டிலிருந்துதான் தொடங்குகிறது - திருவள்ளூர் மாவட்டத்தின் வரலாற்றுத்தொன்மை" என்றத்தலைப்பில் பேராசிரியர் முனைவர் சு. ஜெகஜீவன்ராம் அவர்கள் சிறப்புரையாற்றினார்.
27.04.2024 அன்று தென்னிந்திய வரலாறு மற்றும் பண்பாட்டு ஆய்வு மையத்தின் சார்பில் உத்திரமேரூர் கல்வெட்டுகள் மற்றும் காஞ்சிபுரத்தில் உள்ள கைலாசநாதர் கோவில், வைகுந்த பெருமாள் கோவில் ஆகிய இடங்களுக்கு மரபுநடை பயணம் ஏற்பாடு செய்யப்பட்டது. இதில் கல்லூரி, பள்ளி மாணவர்கள், வரலாற்று ஆர்வலர்கள் பங்கேற்றனர். இப்பயணத்தில் கல்வெட்டுகள் மற்றும் கோவில்களின் வரலாறு மற்றும் பண்பாட்டு சிறப்புகள் விளக்கிச் சொல்லப்பட்டன.
The South Indian History and Cultural Research Centre is a registered trust dedicated to historical and cultural research, with South India as its foundation. It was established with the objective of conducting in-depth research and promoting the history, archaeology, arts, and literature of South India.
The Centre was established with the aim of deeply studying and preserving the ancient history, culture, and civilizational heritage of South India. The primary objective of our institution is to research and document the development of South Indian society from the Sangam period to the modern era, including its political, cultural, artistic, literary, and social life.
Sangam literature, inscriptions, temple architecture, folk traditions, and oral history serve as important sources of South Indian cultural heritage. Recognizing the importance of collecting, researching, and documenting such historical evidence to preserve cultural identity, the Centre actively works in this direction.
The Centre also strives to bring to light the contributions of various South Indian dynasties, societies, and civilizations. Special emphasis is placed on the political systems, trade networks, maritime connections, and cultural exchanges during the periods of the Chola dynasty, Chera dynasty, Pandya dynasty, Pallava dynasty, and the Vijayanagara Empire.
Archaeological research has played a crucial role in reconstructing the history of Tamil Nadu. In South India, especially in Tamil Nadu, the tradition of archaeological research that began with Robert Bruce Foote has continued for over a century. Excavations and studies conducted from Adichanallur in southern Tamil Nadu to Attirampakkam in northern Tamil Nadu have significantly contributed to understanding the region’s past.
Geographically, ancient Tamilakam once included areas that are today part of Kerala, Karnataka, and Andhra Pradesh. Our Centre plans to identify and study ancient settlements, temple complexes, cave sites, trade ports, and heritage locations across South India.
Through land surveys, excavations, and geological and technological methods, we aim to collect data, analyze findings, and create a digital archive as part of our long-term vision.
Through Sangam literature, Bhakti literature, folk songs, epics, and prose works, the lifestyles, beliefs, social structures, and cultural exchanges of ancient societies are revealed.
Our Centre aims to understand the literary development of South Indian languages such as Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam through comparative studies. We also plan to collect, research, and preserve ancient texts, manuscripts, inscriptional records, and oral traditions in digital form.

Poetry, dance, painting, and music, which express the cultural identity and lifestyle of South Indian society, are the major areas of research at our Centre.
South Indian artistic traditions have flourished since the Sangam period. Sangam poetry reflects social life, love, heroism, nature, and human values. Later, during the Bhakti movement, devotional compositions such as Thevaram and the Nalayira Divya Prabandham strengthened spiritual devotion and social unity. These poetic traditions highlight the richness and cultural identity of South Indian languages.
Bharathanatyam, a classical dance form of South India, is closely associated with temple traditions and worship. It flourished through the support of temples, royal patronage, and society. Painting traditions in South India are reflected in temple murals, cave paintings, and folk art. Ancient artists depicted mythological stories, oral traditions, social life, and nature. The paintings of the Pallava, Chola, and Vijayanagara periods reveal the artistic and technical excellence of South Indian culture.
The Centre studies and documents these art forms and promotes them through seminars, training programs, field research, and cultural events. It also works to introduce traditional arts to the younger generation and create cultural awareness.
